DAFO

DAFO

The word orthosis means ‘to correct, to align’ in the ancient Greek language. It is defined as devices that are attached to the body and used externally, aiming to increase the quality of life in order to increase the performance of limbs that have partially or completely lost their function.

This orthosis, called dynamic ankle orthosis, is a type of orthosis specially designed for the patient to increase stability in the applied area, prevent deformities that may occur, correct deformities that have occurred, and help the patient’s walking..

Dafo Supramalleolus

It is a type of orthosis that is frequently used in pediatric children and prevents inward and outward stepping in advanced foot and ankle deformities.

It has a structure that allows the ankle to move freely and allows children to easily engage in activities.

  • For patients with excessive pronation and/or supination.

  • For patients whose development is delayed due to very low tone pronation and sensory problems.

  • For patients who have a high level of specific foot correction but have adequate ankle control for their functional level.

  • For patients who engage in frequent floor activities that require free ankle movement.

  • For patients with feet that are difficult to straighten or feet with sensitive bone protrusions.

  • It is used for patients who need extra padding for feet with sensitive bony prominences.

Dafo 3.5

  • For patients with excessive pronation or supination.

  • For patients with excessive plantarflexion or dorsiflexion.

  • For patients with knee hyperextension.

  • It is very useful for patients who have some voluntary control and can use that control to increase overall function.

  • For patients requiring greater medial/lateral stability than possible in DAFO 3 or DAFO 4.

  • For patients who require assistance in managing knee position in flexion and/or extension.

  • Recommended for patients who need a rest splint.

Dafo 2 Softy

  • For patients with strong plantarflexion habits, moderate to strong toe walking results in significant heel elevation.

  • For patients with excessive pronation or supination.

  • For patients who require a long proximal upright stance to control hyperextension of the knee.

  • Recommended for patients with feet that are difficult to straighten or feet with sensitive bony prominences.

Dafo Puller

It helps to bring the foot into dorselfflexion (pulling up) position due to the contracture occurring in the ankle.

It is suitable for use in patients with Achilles tendon tension or who have undergone a surgical intervention.

It is possible to use this orthosis group at rest.

  • For patients with limited ankle mobility due to tight calf muscles and Achilles tendon.

  • It is preferred for patients who would benefit from passive, adjustable stretching while resting or sleeping to improve ankle range of motion.

Dafo Grafo

Grafo, a patella-supported knee extension orthosis, is generally used for pediatric patients.

It allows us to support the patient’s knee flexion (involuntary bending of the knees) and keep it in a neutral position.

It is recommended to use with orthotic shoes.

Although rare, it is used in tibia fractures..
